What a Louzy Job.....

A Classic/Mega Traveller roleplaying game, set in the classic traveller 'universe'.

Situation.

The players have just finished delivering the cargo from Chill, but they dont know what the 'secret' behind it all is (due to locals distrust of offworlders and the unwillingness to talk). I figured that throwing in a 'offworlders save the day' would be a neat thing.

The Imperial Noble they are with has just made them all unpopular (even more so) by trying to force the information out of the local leader, although the captain will soon solve that, atleast for this adventure.

Im working on the theory that solving this case will get the players enough 'local' cred to let the local leadership trust them with their Chill/blood 'secret'.

Background.

There was a big earthquake about 7 days ago which claimed 25 lives and destroyed a local factory and 5 homes. '5's are unlucky numbers for the locals.

The local Primacy vice president was killed recently by means unknown and most of the locals are putting it down to 'a ghost' (as outlined in the adventure). As unluck would have it, this happened the day the aliens landed.

The players arrive and the 'Chill' train event happens. This is a big spike in the rebel activity which worries people. Combine that with the the destruction of the main city to spaceport link (for a week) and this has people really conserned.

The offworlders come to the capital, threaten and disrepect the Leader, topping off a wonderful confluence of events.

Adventure start.

Rather than useing the adventure start as posted, I modified it and included the following.
  • Someone going outside the nobles yacht notices a rioting crowd behind the local military base fence. There is stuff being thrown at the troops and the ship. The protesters are and angry angry mob.
  • The local officer, Major Wivven, and a local noble, Earl Seppenkor explain that the recent events have 'upset the locals'.
  • Brumen, the captain and a noble who is slumming it, goes in and charges Astra with breaching imperial law (setting up a later adventure in court and throwing finding the solution to our crew). The crew are now required to find out whats happening for the upcoming legal case.
  • Investigating the death of the vice-leader to see if there is any link to rebel activity seems like a good idea.
  • The vice ministers death occured before the players landed (rather than while they are staying there).
  • The house is now a large old house overlooking the town with trees around it. The layout is, house, 10 meters, chainlink fence with razorwire, another 10 meters to the trees. Add in guards and lights as specifed in the adventure.

Problems.

It was late and I was tired, thats my excuse.

The problem with this was that the murder happened a few days ago so I had to think of a reason the local investigators didnt a lot of the info the players did.

*sigh*

Ok, my reasoning was that it was a military investigation and that they didnt really share their discoveries until the case is completed. They found the glass hole, but it isnt public knowledge yet.

The players are taken to the scene by a local noble and find the hole and the footprint and fence evidence and the local noble calls in the local 'CSI' group to do a seperate investigation.

It was late and I didnt think of the previous investigation when I ran it, but you've been forwarned ;) :).

So...

Im still going to have the players spend an uncomfortable night there :).

Im not sure if Ill have another killing or Ill just go to the laser carbine thing.

Resolution

So, if it wasnt a test then what was it?

My reason for St Foy (from Chill) being so anti social was, not only do they have the problems with the blood, but also they were a colony that got into bickering with mining companies early in the settlements history.

I need to work out a timeline/history for when this happened.

The corps brought in pirates and mercs to make the colonists back off their mining claims.

The data in the buried ships computer will reveal that the ship is a bunch of Player Character like mercs who were hired to remove political leaders who were too anti-mining until they could organise to get a pro mining colonist in the Leaders job.

The robot rebooted and has restarted the 'kill/terrorise' the leaders routine.

Other than that it runs pretty much as expected.
